What is Dental Sedation?
This refers to a technique in which a trained dentist uses sedative drugs to calm and relax patients before or during a dental checkup or procedure.
Is Sedation Really Safe for Me?
For many people, yes, it is safe and effective when administered properly. However, some patients naturally do not react well to the sedation methods or medicines used. Here at The Max Dental Center we take your safety and peace of mind very seriously and will not administer the use of sedatives until Dr. Max Breazeal decides that it is the best option for you. Before administering any drugs, Dr. Max Breazeal will always explain the procedure fully, cross reference any medications, supplements and herbs that you are currently taking and consult with your physician if needed.
Dr. Max Breazeal was trained and licensed in sedation dentistry at The University of Tenessee College of Dentistry. He has years of experience administering nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or oral medication to calm anxious patients for a smoother dental visit.
Types of Sedation Offered at The Max Dental Center
Dr. Max Breazeal offers two different types of dental sedation in Collierville, TN.
Nitrous Oxide. Also known as “laughing gas”, Nitrous Oxide is a gas that, when inhaled, produces a euphoric, relaxed state for patients. Nitrous Oxide has been used in dental settings since 1844. This gas has a slightly sweet taste and smell and provides a comfortable, stress-free experience for anxious adults or children.
Oral Sedation. This is offered via one pill that is taken orally. While patients who opt to take oral sedation are not completely unconscious, they are put in a state of complete relaxation and experience no pain. Additionally, oral sedation can provide an amnesiac effect so that nervous patients remember little of their dental visit.
Sedatives allow even the most apprehensive patients to experience a pain and stress free dentist appointment. Sedation can even allow for complex procedures to be completed in less time and visits. Stop sacrificing your oral health for your dental anxieties, choose to alleviate this for your next check up or procedure!
